    Lasers are in demand for their focused, single-wavelength electromagnetic beams. The low-divergence, single-wavelength radiation and vast range of available laser power ranges make them one of the most valuable tools for material processing in both manufacturing and scientific research.


    Laser beam divergence is one of the important parameters to know for laser manufacturers and users alike who need to take control of their laser spot size. From laser welding applications to wafer dicing or eye surgery, knowing the beam divergence is a must for building a functional setup and directing the energy precisely where it is needed for a given process.


    Brolight BRM-6301 represents a significant advancement in divergence angle analysis -- a fully automated instrument engineered specifically for characterizing laser diodes with large divergence angles. It effectively overcomes the limitations of traditional beam profilers, which are predominantly suitable only for LDs possessing small far-field angles. The system features one-touch, fully automated measurement operation, delivering comprehensive angular distribution profiles in both polar and Cartesian coordinate systems, with optional reporting of half-intensity angle (FWHM) data. Configuration of the BRM-6301 is highly flexible, allowing users to select the optimal detector and mounting fixture based on the specific wavelength, output power, and package type of the Laser Diode under test. Furthermore, the instrument is equally capable of performing precise angular distribution measurements for LEDs.


    When integrated with the BRM-610X series Laser Diode Drivers and the BRM-620X series TEC Temperature Controllers, the functionality of the BRM-6301 is substantially expanded. This integrated solution enables not only divergence angle measurement but also comprehensive characterization of key laser diode parameters. Particularly for LDs with small divergence angles, the system can analyze P-I-V (Power-Current-Voltage) curves, determine threshold current, and calculate WPE (Wall-Plug Efficiency), providing a complete diagnostic suite.
